The Truth is Hard  to Tell
The truth is hard to tell
like a forgotten verse
etched a upon a distant wall.

The cannonades
amid the colonnades
have tumbled down
edifices that housed
those old truths once
held as self-evident.

We have no direction,
no home to return to.
We are lost amid a siege
of delusion and thievery.

No truth is to be found
all this great world round.
The poisonous greed
has caused climate change.
Truth needs to be nurtured
in the open air, independent
of schemes and profits.

"The truth shall set you free."
No truth, no freedom, no you.

So turn off the TV, take a look
in the mirror, breathe deep,
then shed a tear, for the
truths that can be told
are not what we now behold.
