The Rip Post

hapless sandwich

the food doesn't like the way i talk to it
the water keeps sliding when i try to drink it
did i come in through the wrong window
did i wipe my hands on something sacred?

rumors stand on the curb, hands in pockets
waiting for the call
another night promises to behave

get yourself a brand new hapless sandwich
eat it real fast before they come for you
there is good nutrition hiding in its heart

the blessed and the meek
sometimes they get through the turnstyle
will you stand with them in the angry rain?
will you know them when they call for you?

harden my heart and hope to die, they say in homeroom
well, i guess so
harden your heart and die for sure
will you let them kiss you in the frightened rain?

walk a bit slower now
time isn't running off anywhere

hapless sandwich wagon up ahead
your favorite beverage all ready to go

tried to raise the dead
all i could get was a ruckus
meet me sometime after the lights go up
maybe in the lobby
i found this new cure for something

if you're real real nice
maybe it'll let you pet it.

How long?
how long have you been running
and will they share the tip jar when you reach whatever it is
you feel you are running to and for?
the dog just isn't the same since you disappeared.
well, maybe you are just where you've been all these days
perhaps we just don't know how to see you for what you
feel. the dog would know, though.
how long until the cease fire fades?
how long until the missing are found?
time claims its nothing more than what it is,
but it slowly climbs up your body
from the soles of your feet
up the ankles and thighs
across the gut
moving ever so aesthetically
for your heart and jugular;
time claims don't be fearful of it
accept it for what it just might be.
how long until the final act gets written in a way
the producers will finally be okay with it and move on.
how long until love finally gets its own show?
run then, run for that extra special cave
somewhere up ahead, and may its rocks fit your body well.
run then, and run as long as it takes
you'll just wind up back at base camp, baby
and the food will go down just as it always goes down,
that is, if you have any.
stop running for a second.
take a hit off this riff.
the long and the short,
the long time ago, the long time yet to come,
how long do you want it to be
how long can it hold that note
time eventually will have us
but until then
each day is your first and last
and the last becomes the first
sit down then for a second
take a breath
the fires are slowly making their way toward us
but i know this escape hatch
i am going to create it just in time
just dig it
and sing me that tune
you used to be so rhapsodic about
you thought i wasn't listening
but i heard every note
sing me that tune
while i create this escape hatch for us
because the fires baby they are coming up fast now
and time says it has no ulterior motive
but every time we order drinks
it never picks up the tab.
